Sommerschule Children's Camps 2008

This summer the GAI will be offering four "camp-style" courses for children aged 6-12. Each session will focus on a different theme and incorporate highly interactive, fun activities to help your child build his or her German language skills.

Beginners to bi-lingual children welcome, as activities will be developed according to group ability levels.

The $150 enrollment fee ($140 for GAI members) includes all materials, costs, and daily healthy snacks. Camp held each day 9:00am - 12:00pm.

Camp #1: June 23-27  Abenteuer im Mittelalter

Go on an Adventure into the Middle Ages. The week will be filled with medieval games, crafts, music, and stories. You may participate in a jousting tournament, master a magicians trick, learn a medieval trade, or be queen for a day. Beginners to bilingual kids. Recommended ages: 6-12.

Camp #2: July 14-18  Das Leben der Wikinger

Explore the life and crafts of the Vikings at the Baltic Sea. Learn Viking songs and dances, make jewelry, read and write runes, play authentic Viking board games, alles auf Deutsch! The week will end with a Markfest in Haitabu. Conducted completely in German. Recommended ages: 7-12. German proficiency required.

Camp #3: July 28-August 1  Die Umwelt und ich

Learn about the interactions between humans and the environment. Conduct science experiments, build models of the solar system, create art projects using recycled materials, and more. Beginners to bilingual kids. Recommended ages 6-10.

Camp #4: August 11-15  German Safari

Discover the natural world auf Deutsch with plenty of hands-on activities! Make an animal mask and explore the grounds for prey, participate in an skit, sing Safari songs, or create a silly poem with your new vocabulary. A great choice for new beginners, and kids entering Twin Cities German Immersion School. Recommended ages 5-8.

Camp #5: August 11-15  Die Chinesische Nachtigall: A Musical Project

Bring to life the famous Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. Learn music improvisational skills with a new instrument, create simple costumes, play Olympic sports, all leading to a grand theatrical production on Friday. Conducted completely in German. Recommended ages 7-12. German proficiency required.
