G-series Classes (G100 - G600)

18 week semester course

Once a week for 2.5 hours

An immersion-style curriculum that builds four language skills for students possibly interested in reaching Zertifikat Deutsch proficiency. Classes in the G series are a good choice for those learning German for academic or professional reasons, experienced language learners, or students looking for a fairly accelerated pace.

*When you have finished the exam, note which level of Schritte (1-6) and chapter (Lektion 1-14) was recommended. Note, if you placed near the end of a Schritte textbook (Lektion 7 or 14), you may want to consider enrolling in the next highest course if you prefer to be more challenged. Course Descriptions

G100 (Schritte 1, Lektion 1-6): Course assumes no prior knowledge of German and is the best choice for those who are new to foreign language study or have no experience with German. Students progress from learning the basics of German pronunciation and comprehension to building grammar and conversation skills related to everyday topics such as the family, shopping, daily routine and life in Germany.

G100 Accelerated (Schritte 1, Lektion 1-6): Assumes no prior knowledge of German, but a good choice for experienced language learners, those who have studied some German in the past or false beginners. Course rapidly progresses through basic pronunciation and grammar skills, including regular and irregular verb conjugation, the accusative case, and an introduction to the Perfekt past tense. Covers a board range of vocabulary related to everyday conversations such as daily routine, family life, the workplace, and freetime activities.

G200 (Schritte 2, Lektion 7-14): Course begins with a review of the Perfekt and introduces prepositions and pronouns in the dative case. A sample of topics covered includes navigating in a city, shopping and health concerns.

G300 (Schritte 3, Lektion 1-6): Reviews the accusative and dative in addition to introducing grammar topics such as inverted word order within clauses, reflexive verbs, and the preterite. Intermediate vocabulary topics such as the workplace, European school system, family relationships.

G400 (Schritte 4, Lektion 7-14): Introduces the subjunctive to make requests, adjective endings, and passive voice. Provides further practice of the dative and accusative (especially the prepositions) and advanced word order within clauses. A sample of topics covered include vacation planning, business transactions, and intergenerational ties.

G500 (Schritte 5, Lektion 1-6): Further practices the preterite and advanced forms of past tense as well as the passive and both forms of the subjunctive. Other grammar topics include the genitive case, relative clauses, and zu +infinitive. A sample of topics covered include giving an event report, ideal living situations, and preparing for a job interview.
