Catering & House Rental
The Germanic-American Institute (GAI) “Haus” at 301 Summit Avenue may be rented by the public for meetings, parties, and other events. The historic, 107 year-old mansion features:
- Three intimate dining rooms on the main floor, each with elegant fireplace
- Authentic German Ratskeller with bar in the lower level
- Spacious ballroom with auxiliary bar on the third floor
- On-site parking lot included with Haus rental; easily accessible off-street parking
The GAI catering services provide menu selections for large and small, informal and traditional celebrations. German, American, and European selections are available at a range of prices. Haus rental rates vary according to space options rented. Proceeds from Event Services support the GAI's cultural and educational mission.
Please note: The GAI Haus does not have elevator access to upper and lower levels. Only the main floor is wheelchair/handicapped accessible. Capacity for rental groups is approximately 220 persons.
The Haus is the refurbished 1906 Beaux Arts-inspired home of the Gardner family, affluent members of Saint Paul's business community who occupied the house until the 1930s. Since the late 1960s, it has served as the home of the Germanic-American Institute and its predecessor organization, the Volksfest Association. Today it is home to the GAI's many cultural and educational offerings. It is also available to the public as an affordable and elegant venue for weddings and receptions, quinceaneras, business meetings and luncheons, musical performances, funeral and memorial lunches, anniversary parties and lecture series.
